A horror escape room is one of the best Christmas party ideas in London for teams who want something more memorable than a set menu and a bar tab. At Horror Escape in Peckham, groups of 2 to 8 get 60 minutes inside a private, live actor scenario to find clues, solve puzzles and escape. That makes it a team building escape room your colleagues will actually look forward to.
The office Christmas party has a reputation problem. The same restaurant, the same awkward small talk and the same three people who end up doing all the talking. If you are the one organising it this year, here is how a horror escape room changes that, and how to plan it without the stress.
Why swap the usual office Christmas party for an escape room?
A meal puts people in fixed seats next to whoever they already know. An escape room does the opposite. For 60 minutes your team has one shared goal, a ticking clock and something lurking in the dark, so everyone has to talk, listen and pull together.
The quiet person who spots the hidden code gets the credit. The manager who screams first gets the teasing. By the time you walk out, there are stories nobody would have had from another round of drinks.
It also suits every kind of team. You do not need to be fit, sporty or a puzzle expert. You just need to be willing to work together, and maybe hold someone’s hand on the way through a dark corridor.
What happens during a team building escape room in London?
Every game at Horror Escape follows the same simple structure:
- Book your preferred scenario online. Each one has its own theme, difficulty and scare intensity.
- Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your slot so the team can settle in.
- Brief with one of our experienced game masters, who explains your objectives before you start.
- Assess each room carefully to find the clues, items and puzzles that move you forward.
- Work together to solve the challenges before time runs out.
- Debrief afterwards, when your game master runs through your wins and shows you how to crack anything you missed.
That debrief is a great moment for a work team. It turns the chaos into a quick conversation about who did what, and it usually ends with a lot of laughing.
Every game is private, so you will never be mixed in with strangers. It is just your team, your game master and whatever is waiting inside.
Which scenario suits your team?
We run six scenarios, and you can browse them all on our horror escape room scenarios page. Here is a quick guide for party planners.
For teams with mixed nerves
Twisted Tales is our immersive story room with no live actor. It still has a dark, eerie atmosphere, but it is the gentlest option if some colleagues are nervous about jump scares.
For teams who want real fear
Ravenswood Asylum sends you into an abandoned asylum to uncover the truth about Patient 13. Cabin Fever traps you with a family of cannibals. Both feature live actors and both get people screaming.
For a festive ghost story
Murder Mansion casts your team as paranormal investigators trying to rid a haunted London mansion of a demon. If you want something that feels like a classic winter ghost story, this is the one.
For something different
Coven puts you in a ruined church where seven witches were burned alive, while Freakshow drops you into a cursed carnival run by a murderous Ringmaster clown.
Each scenario has its own difficulty rating and fright factor rating, so you can match the room to your team rather than guessing.
How many people can play and what does it cost?
Teams of 2 to 8 can play, though some rooms take fewer players, so check each scenario’s group size before you book. Pricing depends on team size and whether you book an off-peak or peak slot. As a guide, 4 players cost between £120 and £140, 6 players between £168 and £198, and 8 players between £208 and £248. The full list is on our FAQs page.
If your team is bigger than one room allows, or you are planning a special occasion, email us before you book and we will talk through the options.
When can you book?
Games run Monday to Thursday from 12:30pm to 8:30pm, and Friday to Sunday from 11am to 10pm. Weekday afternoon slots are ideal if you want the party to start straight after work, with dinner or drinks nearby afterwards.
Christmas is a busy time for group bookings, so lock in your date early to get the slot you want.
How do you get your team to Peckham?
We are at 43 Peckham High Street, SE15 5EB, a 10 minute walk from Peckham Rye station, which is served by the Overground, Southern and Southeastern. Plenty of bus routes stop at Peckham Library and Harris Academy nearby. Our how to find us guide has the full details, including parking.
Book a Christmas party nobody forgets
If you want an office Christmas party that brings people together instead of splitting them into the usual corners, a horror escape room is a simple answer. Pick your scenario, book your slot and let our game masters handle the rest. Book your team building escape room in London today and give your colleagues something to talk about long after the decorations come down.
Frequently asked questions
Is an escape room good for an office Christmas party?
Yes. An escape room gives your team a shared goal for 60 minutes, so everyone gets involved, and every game at Horror Escape is private to your group.
Do colleagues need to be fit to play?
No. You do not need to be physically fit, although some scenarios involve crawling or squeezing, so wear comfortable clothes and trainers.
Is there a less scary option for nervous colleagues?
Yes. Twisted Tales has no live actor and is the gentlest of our scenarios, while the other five feature live actors for bigger scares.
