Stag and Hen Do Ideas London: Swap the Bar Crawl for a Horror Escape Room

Planning a stag or hen do in London is a big responsibility. Get it right and you are a legend for life. Get it wrong and you spend the whole weekend herding a bored group from one overpriced bar to the next. If you are hunting for stag and hen do ideas in London that feel genuinely different, a horror escape room could be exactly what the group needs.

Here is why a horror escape room makes a brilliant start (or finale) to the celebrations, and how to plan it so the whole group has a great time.

Why a Horror Escape Room Works for Stag and Hen Groups

Stag and hen groups are rarely one tight circle of friends. You often have school mates, work friends, siblings and future in-laws who have barely met. A night of drinks can leave those groups sitting at separate ends of the table.

An escape room breaks that down fast. Within five minutes of the door closing, people who met an hour ago are shouting codes at each other and grabbing each other’s arms when something moves in the dark. Nothing bonds a group quite like being chased by a live actor.

It also gives the day some shape. Our games run from 11am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so you can play in the afternoon and still have the whole evening ahead of you. Every game is private, so it is just your group in the room.

Picking the Right Room for the Group

We have six scenarios running at our Peckham venue. Each has its own difficulty and fright factor rating, so you can match the room to the group.

Ravenswood Asylum: For Groups Who Want to Scream

If you want maximum chaos, Ravenswood Asylum is the one. Your team plays documentary filmmakers trapped inside an abandoned asylum with the escaped Patient 13. It takes up to 8 players, and it is the room our reviewers mention most often for scares.

Cabin Fever: For Competitive Groups

Got a group of puzzle lovers who take winning seriously? Cabin Fever traps you in a farmhouse run by a family of cannibals. One reviewer who had played more than 20 escape rooms described it as a great set and very challenging, so it is a proper test.

Freakshow or Coven: For Something Theatrical

Freakshow puts you inside a cursed carnival run by a murderous Ringmaster, while Coven sends you into a burned church to stop seven witches rising again. Both have live actors and both lean heavily into atmosphere and story.

Big Group? Split Into Teams

Each room takes a maximum of 7 or 8 players depending on the scenario. For a bigger stag or hen party, split into two teams, book two rooms at the same time and race each other. The losing team buys the first round. It adds a competitive edge and gives everyone something to argue about for the rest of the weekend.

Make the Bride or Groom the Star

The guest of honour should get the full treatment. A few ideas:

  • Turn up the fear. You can increase the fear level for an extra £10 for 2 to 5 players, or £20 for 6 to 8 players.
  • Let us know in advance. Email contact@horrorescape.co.uk before your game with any special requests.
  • Dress the part. Matching T-shirts are fine, but stick to trainers and comfortable clothes. Some rooms involve crawling and moving quickly in low light.

Practical Tips for the Organiser

A little admin now saves a lot of stress on the day:

  • Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your slot. Groups arriving 10 or more minutes late cannot play.
  • Save the drinking for afterwards. You need a clear head for the puzzles, and you will want to remember the scares.
  • If plans change, give us at least 48 hours’ notice and we can usually reschedule for free. As our games are live events, we do not offer refunds.
  • Opening hours are 12:30pm to 8:30pm Monday to Thursday, and 11am to 10pm Friday to Sunday.

Full prices and policies are on our FAQs page.
